I used some frozen corn to supplement my dwindling edamame supply, didn't have any tamarind either, and used sesame oil instead of peanut. In any case, turned out so good. I've only tried them once and they were the one thing I liked at a Chinese place I got dragged to. Apparently most Asian supermarkets sell them in the freezers, probably quite cheaply. And finished it for breakfast. We figured there was nothing in the combined ingredients that couldn't be found individually in other manifestations of typical breakfast foods.
