May I ask what kind of flour you use in the ...Hi ! May I ask what kind of flour you use in the Ginger Slice. Is it self raising (SR), or plain ? Does the ingredient described as 'flour' in a recipe, always denote plain flour by default ? If a recipe requires a different kind of flour, such as 'SR flour'for example, would it be described as SR flour, or again using only the term 'plain flour', and then with baking powder or bi-carb added to the ingredients list as a raising agent ? I think that it's probably a pretty dumb question to ask, because I'm guessing that the way recipes are written and described, would have to vary so widely around the world, depending on all sorts of factors like the personality of each cook, and traditions that exist. If you have any insights, it would be wonderful to hear what you have to say :-) Thanks so much for your lovely recipes! I'm about to bake the ginger slice, but i was naughty and decided to experiment and add in some crystallised ginger - maybe chopped in small bits similar to how choc chips are added in lots of bikkies. I'm a huge fan of ginger crunch (and resent the fact that when everyone went on a health kick and cut down the butter they had to rename it ginger slice as the crunch element had wilted somewhat). Just wondering - what is the crunch factor in your version?Barryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01192508192861520882noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882957900081933460.post-26325881647644520592009-11-01T12:29:02.637+13:002009-11-01T12:29:02.637+13:00I can't believe so few people know about ginge...I can't believe so few people know about ginger slice. As a gesture of support I bought an Ernest Adams ginger slice yesterday. EA's ginger slee chey is as close to the home made original as you can get commercially - in my humble but experienced opinion on these matters.

By whisk do you mean hand held egg beater thingy - with the two beater thingies?Kayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09171599386561798362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882957900081933460.post-669548342705419602009-11-01T10:47:03.122+13:002009-11-01T10:47:03.122+13:00Happy Belated Labor Day... it's Halloween toda...Happy Belated Labor Day... it's Halloween today! It really does look amazing, and so easy that I am going to have to make it right away (I actually wanted to make it when I read the post but didn't have time then - nor did I have time to comment before). I think I will be making it on the weekend!

My husband also finds joy in butter and sugar mixed together. I am not as fond of it as he is, but I am still all for genetic engineering to inject slender-making properties into it! It would also be amusing to crack walnuts on your abs the next morning after eating it! haha!

I totally get the "cutesy things" we do for photos for the sake of our blogs. Somehow cookies etc just look better in a stack.

Also, I feel your pain re: Ticketek. Nana makes a mean ginger slice - possibly a la Edmonds Cookbook. Speaking of ginger... she also makes an explosive (literally) ginger beer, which is the other must-use for ginger.

Don't get me started on ticketek.... remember when I booked you tickets over the phone from Auckland (on my credit card)for the Italian ballet in Wellington, 2 days before the ballet, and they said that only the card holder could pick up the tickets...in Wellington? Even though I said,"Hey, why not use a secret id number or password or, .... I dunno, maybe .... my name?" "Nope!" From memory I think you were just going to turn up and create a scene... Can't remember the final outcome although it had little to do with immediate common sense.Kayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09171599386561798362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882957900081933460.post-3263722990301201622009-10-26T11:11:46.969+13:002009-10-26T11:11:46.969+13:00Millie: Yay, Little Bushman!
