I´m not sure what the proper name or spelling for it is but it was made with special unlevened flourless bread mix from Jerusalem. This will necessitate further research by me but I´m sure you will have a much better idea.

I am at this very moment having a furtive vegemite sandwhich - with butter, and my taste buds are almost weeping in recognition of a familiar taste. I hasten to add, Argentina has a wonderful culinary culture and I am working my way through most of it.Kayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09171599386561798362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882957900081933460.post-14758199939840565752009-04-09T11:14:00.000+12:002009-04-09T11:14:00.000+12:00Oh Laura I am shaking with laughter at your antics...Oh Laura I am shaking with laughter at your antics with the cicada. I love reading your Blog. You have the gift of bringing a situation to life. i too have started making dishes that seem to require every pot dish and pan in the kitchen. They usually ended up a disaster. I am not so adventurous now. Your pie looks wonderful.Rhyleysgrannyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00908998924460171209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882957900081933460.post-42912439522760414512009-04-07T08:43:00.000+12:002009-04-07T08:43:00.000+12:00Scotty: Hey there! Take care :)

Boffcat: Why thank you, that was completely unexpected and unprompted! Often instead of getting a dessert after a meal I just go buy a magnum or other fancy ice cream instead.

twospoons: You'd never touch filo? Cake for breakfast sounds like a very sensible way to start the day, sorry bout the less than impressive fruit and juice though! I am safely...Hola de Parana, Entre Rios, Argentina. I am safely home and about to update my blog on all the fascinating experiences... some of them gastronomic. But, in short, it seems the same the world over.... it would be just as easy to make a good salad/ French fry/sandwhich as it would a bad one.Having said that... the best papas fritas (thick French fries)in the world are made in El Exceso, a new restaurant in Parana.

The hotel/budget tourist food I came across in Brazil was pretty disappointing and fresher bananas can be found in New World Waiuku. Also, in a country where Carmen Miranda wears fresh fruit as headwear, one would think breakfast orange juice would be... well, orange juice. But no, I went half way around the world to have "Refresh" for breakfast. So ditto on the "How hard could it be...?" comments.

However, in desperation, I tried the cake (two pieces) for breakfast and it was very nice... like a Madeira cake (Portuguese, get it?) and it had an "I loved making the cake on-site" taste to it. Such juxtaposition with the plate of the most insipid, tasteless, red-less tomatoes I have ever tasted... and lettuce which had more of an "attacked" than shredded appearance and taste.

I think I will visit you in Wellington (yes... I will brave the shmeered kitchen) for some home-made filo pie.Kayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09171599386561798362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882957900081933460.post-56330370959918044702009-04-06T12:27:00.000+12:002009-04-06T12:27:00.000+12:00Lord, that pie sounds marvellous, but I would neve...Lord, that pie sounds marvellous, but I would never touch filo pastry if you paid me and then kissed all my toes. So grats that pie eventuated!

Also, totally agee on the desserts thing... at least you enjoy baking!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882957900081933460.post-44912878062497050622009-04-05T23:03:00.000+12:002009-04-05T23:03:00.000+12:00My stars that looks like a complicated, deliciousl...My stars that looks like a complicated, deliciously gourmet pie...what - you made it? What an asset you are to the blogging community!

Also, I share your dessert dissapointment - I've been to some otherwise lovely (and even reasonably classy) establishments which wheel out garish laminated menus come dessert time, generally featuring factory assembly-line tirimasu and ice cream presented in various hollowed out fruits. If they're really not up to making their own (and I find it hard to believe that a kitchen which can send out elaborate rissotti or fiddly seafood can't run to a homemade pudding) I'd rather they skipped on desserts altogether.Boffcathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10434407949600591651noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882957900081933460.post-69248812350519111992009-04-05T22:55:00.000+12:002009-04-05T22:55:00.000+12:00This comment has been removed by the author.Boffcathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10434407949600591651noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6882957900081933460.post-28150802034410269002009-04-05T19:11:00.000+12:002009-04-05T19:11:00.000+12:00I couldn't agree more about the cafe! The pie sounds totally delicious too Laura!

I am saddened by the end of daylight saving, I think we should save it all year round. Then spend it all at once on fancy booze and imported chocolate.

Hope to see you shortly, ish.

Scotty xScottyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00176490873920957143noreply@blogger.com
